God’s purpose was in all they did, said, thought, and prayed. Can you imagine seeing a chariot of fire engulfed in flames coming down from heaven and taking away your best friend? What an awesome defining moment that must have been for Elisha!

Elisha’s defining moment revealed his purpose. Elisha wanted to follow in Elijah’s footsteps. He chose to give glory to God, look to God, and be obedient to the calling. Elijah left a trail like none other, and Elisha wanted to follow God. Elisha followed God through Elijah.

Joy and I are not Elijah and Elisha, but the dynamics are the same. We clearly see how our friendship was meant to be, that it is about God and not us, so we give God the glory for everything. Although God is no respecter of people, He knew Joy would be best as my mentor. I would not be the person God meant me to be if it had not been for her influence in my life and my obedience to what God was saying through her.

When I prayed about this, asking God what I would do without Joy, I felt an immediate almost imperceptible response in my spirit, quiet and clear, “When it is Joy’s time to go, you won’t need her anymore.” God is my provider, and I will have the wisdom He wants me to have to continue the calling He has for me. It’s not about me; it’s about God.

I turn to God through Joy. God uses her in my life to speak truth and cultivate wisdom more than most anyone in my life. She was His willing instrument.

I don’t believe life is meant to be lived like a roller coaster. As I mature, the highs don’t seem so high anymore; nor do the lows seem so low.

Perhaps I am learning to live more comfortably in a spiritual place of well being. It feels so good to live inside my own skin and be at peace. By abiding in Jesus, I am happy. There is absolutely nothing under heaven or on earth that feels better than abiding in Jesus. His yoke may be easy and His burden light, but there is always death at the cross.
