Chapter Seven - Leave A Lasting Legacy

When the sower scattered the seed, only one of four took root. I remember this story so I don’t get discouraged when I see a relationship in my life where my love and efforts are not reciprocated. I am not God, nor do I understand another’s heart and mind. You won’t always see when you make a difference. Sometimes it takes years before the harvest is ready.

God’s timing is everything. Mary and Elizabeth were meant to meet. “And at that time Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country to a town of Judah. And she went to the house of Zachariah and, entering it, saluted Elizabeth. And it occurred that when Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with and controlled by the Holy Spirit. And she cried out with a loud cry, and then exclaimed, Blessed (favored of God) above all other women are you! And blessed (favored of God) is the Fruit of your womb! And how [have I deserved that this honor should] be granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behond, the instant the sound of your salutation reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.” (Luke 1:39-44) Even their babies fit. They clearly saw the significance of God in their friendship.

Mary and Elizabeth complemented each other, understood each other and shared what is probably the most fascinating and phenomenal mentoring friendship in the history of mankind. Both loved the Lord, were married, pregnant for the first time, and knew they were going to have sons. And not just any sons, but Mary would give birth to the Son of God while Elizabeth would give birth to the prophet paving the way for the Son of God. An extremely rare knowledge of gender given no ultra sound at the time. For both had apparitions or visitations from God. And in both cases, their defining moments took the form of the angel Gabriel. (Luke 1:19,26) Yet they were different, with different backgrounds and Elizabeth being older and long married.
