Chapter Four - Desire Of Your Heart

“A spiritual journey means making spiritual friends; I had fellow believers praying for me, and I knew God was going to hear their prayers for this experimental procedure. I thought of how vehemently Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, and the thought gave me trust in the power of prayer. I think He prayed aggressively all the time.

“The surgery was successful, but it took time to heal. After the operation, on the flight home, I felt the irregular heartbeat. Once again I was acutely discouraged and depressed, but it didn’t stop my prayers or my hope because I resolved to have the surgery again when the technology improved. Instead, the irregularities in my heartbeat reduced, and I weaned myself off the medications. Since my surgery, five years have passed, I have not had any reoccurrences, and I’m off all medications.

“I work at a less intense level, but I still do very well; I’m married and have an eight- month-old daughter who is the newest miracle in my life. I can look back on what I went through, knowing I love God more than I ever have. I have seen how Christ works. He prepared me for a new way of living and a new way of serving others.”

God used Zach’s brother Andrew (who knew Jesus) to push Zach in Jesus’ direction. Because Zach has learned how to hear from God, he listens when he feels God is speaking about the circumstances in his life. Instead of another home for himself, he bought a home that is now used as a halfway house for recovering drug addicts and alcoholics, helping them transition into a normal way of living with Jesus’ help.

“I give back and serve as best I can simply because I love God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit as much as I do.”
