Chapter Four - Desire Of Your Heart

“When I started to pout I had one or two good friends who would hold on to me and help me face those issues. They had been through the fire, too. At the end of a long day, a lot of the things that would burn off my life were like the ropes of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.”

In Daniel 3, these three men refused to worship the king Nebuchadnezzar and worshiped God only. Nebuchadnezzar threw them into a fiery furnace, but God protected them and they emerged from the furnace unscathed. these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them. Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- Nego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God! (Da 3:27-28).

Don continued, “Because the life of God’s kingdom is within you wherever you are, it naturally will overflow. So when we find ourselves in the public sector and ministry opportunities avail themselves, we can embrace opportunities to disciple.

“I have become very comfortable without the title of Evangelist or Pastor. I still enjoy a successful ministry as a servant in the work place watching God work in people’s lives. However, I felt bitter about having my very good reputation taken away. I felt the one thing I did not want to lose was my reputation. Having faced the fear of loss and the reality of losing it, I don’t know what I was guarding because those things we hold so dear are usually holding us back from accomplishing what God would do.

“I probably don’t have a reputation now. Once I divorced there are certain groups of people where I will never be ‘one of the boys’ again. Divorce is a brand, but it has not stopped the kingdom of God, and I feel more fulfilled today than ever before.”
